How have you been navigating life post-pandemic?
The challenges we've faced in recent years have tested us all in ways we never imagined. From the pandemic's lingering effects to ongoing social, economic, and political upheavals, it's no wonder so many are feeling overwhelmed. This is especially true for those who serve and care for others—parents, caregivers, spiritual leaders, first responders, frontline workers, military servicemembers, medical professionals, educators, birth workers, advocates, social justice champions, and social service and mental health professionals.
In the midst of it all, it's easy to fall into the trap of self-criticism. The "I shoulds" creep in: "I should be coping better," "I should be able to handle this," "I should be stronger." Then come the "I'm nots": "I'm not capable," "I'm not good enough," "I'm not... enough." Whether it's your fears holding you back, the pressures of your job weighing you down, the complexities of your relationships, or the challenges of raising kids in this ever-changing world, I want you to know that I’m here for you.
It's not your fault. We live in a world that often confines us to restrictive roles, convincing us that we must do it all and do it perfectly. Our culture fosters burnout and compassion fatigue, and it's the system that's flawed—not you.
But this doesn't mean you're powerless. You have the strength and responsibility to work through these challenges if you want to live a life that’s true to who you are—with balance, and without sacrificing your wellbeing. It's crucial to prioritize your own needs first, to fill your own tank before you can fully care for others—whether at home or in your community.
Remember Robert Frost’s famous lines, "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." Today, you have infinite roads to take, and with grit and determination, you have the power to choose or create any life path you desire.
